A moment of introspection
So, let me just start this rant bluntly, last week was pretty damn terrible across the board, not just for me, but for a lot of people in my life. Life's been throwing a lot of curve balls lately and it seems like a bunch of us have been doing nothing but striking out.
So how do you deal with it? Some choose to drown themselves in liquor, others go out and mingle to get their minds off things. As for me, writing and training like a mad man is my medicine. I guess I was hoping it would distract me from my problems.
Didn't work.
Instead it just got me thinking about things more than ever. I've never liked making excuses or running from my problems. Just not in me. I guess this week has shown me more than ever that I'd rather fight for something than to let it slip through my fingers. I'll keep fighting for it, because if there was no struggle then it wouldn't be worth it in the first place.
Stay tuned for some more brighter, cheerful posts.

MMA vs NY
http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2011/02/08/2011-02-08_mixed_martial_arts_fans_rally_to_push_new_york_state_to_legalize_controversial_s.html
MMA isn't legalized in NY? you say. Yeah, sounds ridiculous especially since I'm sure a lot of you out there have seen UFC commercials or have even watched the live events. "It's barbaric, it's human cock fighting" you'll hear that and more from people who think the sport shouldn't be legalized. The fact that 44 states regulate the sport makes you have to wonder how legitimate that statement really is.
The biggest problem I have with detractors of the sport is that they state their opinions before even understanding the details. These are probably the same people who don't mind taking in a boxing match once in awhile or rooting for their son in his high school wrestling match. They could even be the same people who sat back and watched the Super Bowl this past weekend, a sport known for producing former players with ailments that can be likened to those who compete in combat sports. But really, is it any different than other combat sports? Is it even that different than football or rugby? Sure it is, but not by much.
So what's my stance? Know at least a decent amount before you open your mouth on a subject, that way you won't sound like a complete fool when you're talking to someone with experience in said subject. So why is MMA singled out? Your guess is as good as mine.

The Angel, The Lotus, and The Well of Creativity
Finished reading The Night Angel Trilogy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_Angel_Trilogy) a great three books of fiction by author Brent Weeks. The blend of violence, romance, sex, magic, and political intrigue were really something to behold, and through it all I found myself listening to Flying Lotus play on my headphones. The experience lit a fire within me, got the creative juices flowing. Since then some nice instrumentals and Microsoft Word are all I need to spawn stories buried deep within my consciousness.
The question I want to ask is, what is it about music that spark the fires of creativity?
The question I want to ask is, what is it about music that spark the fires of creativity?
Here's the thing....
After careful consideration and countless months procrastination, I've finally decided to create this blog.
The intention: Mostly to provide thoughts and feelings on Literature, Music, and Sports (Mixed Martial Arts in particular) as well as sharing some amateur writing of my own. It's time to stop being lazy and carve out my own space in the world. All I can do is lay my viewpoint down and see what comes of it.
So, without further ado, it's time to get this thing off the ground.
