MMA isn't legalized in NY? you say. Yeah, sounds ridiculous especially since I'm sure a lot of you out there have seen UFC commercials or have even watched the live events. "It's barbaric, it's human cock fighting" you'll hear that and more from people who think the sport shouldn't be legalized. The fact that 44 states regulate the sport makes you have to wonder how legitimate that statement really is.
The biggest problem I have with detractors of the sport is that they state their opinions before even understanding the details. These are probably the same people who don't mind taking in a boxing match once in awhile or rooting for their son in his high school wrestling match. They could even be the same people who sat back and watched the Super Bowl this past weekend, a sport known for producing former players with ailments that can be likened to those who compete in combat sports. But really, is it any different than other combat sports? Is it even that different than football or rugby? Sure it is, but not by much.
So what's my stance? Know at least a decent amount before you open your mouth on a subject, that way you won't sound like a complete fool when you're talking to someone with experience in said subject. So why is MMA singled out? Your guess is as good as mine.
